TST COVID Policy – Healthy Body/Healthy Mind

June 26th Update

We have been taking the health and safety of our patients and staff as a priority since the outbreak of COVID-19.  As an essential service provider it is important that we create an environment that is as clean and sanitary as if you were staying at home.  Maintaining a healthy body and mind is why we are here.

Here are the current steps we are taking to reduce the risk and keep your rehabilitation progressing:

  • All staff, patients, and patient family members are required to wear masks entering our office
    • EXCEPTIONS INCLUDE:
      • Those who fall into the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guidance for those who should not wear face coverings due to a medical condition, mental health condition, developmental disability, or are otherwise covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act.
      • Children under 6 years old.
      • People whose religious beliefs prevent them from wearing a face covering
  • We take temperature of anyone coming into the office with a forehead thermometer
  • We provide hand sanitizer during treatment
  • We sanitize all surfaces before and during treatment
  • We provide social distancing seating in waiting areas (space is limited)

Please feel free to contact any of our 4 locations to learn more about how we can serve your needs.

What is Hip Osteoarthritis?

Symptoms and Treatment

⁣⁣When treating hip pain we often assess if the pain is related to hip osteoarthritis.  The hip is a ball (femur) and socket (pelvis) joint. The ends of each bone is covered with articular cartilage which allows the bones to glide smoothly over each other during movement. ⁣⁣Osteoarthritis, the most common form of arthritis, occurs when this articular cartilage gradually wears away and the joint space narrows. Bone spurs may also form in the hip joint as a result of wearing of cartilage. ⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Symptoms include: ⁣⁣

  • Pain in the front of the hip/groin/thigh.
  • Stiffness upon waking or with prolonged positions.
  • Loss of range of motion, crepitus, and pain aggravated with weight bearing.
  • Symptoms typically worsen slowly over time. ⁣⁣

Treatment options:

In most cases, physical therapy is the first recommendation for the treatment of hip osteoarthritis.⁣⁣ If conservative management fails, steroid injections into the hip may be attempted. If symptoms still persist, a hip replacement surgery may be performed. ⁣⁣Following a hip replacement, these patients would then return to physical therapy for post-operative rehabilitation in order to restore their hip range of motion, strength, and function. ⁣⁣

Check your Hips for Back Pain

Having back pain is miserable, and not knowing why you might have back pain can be frustrating. Often in treatment people focus purely on the back muscles, and getting very little relief. This may be because they are focusing on the wrong muscle groups that may be causing your lower back pain. In some cases the hip flexors may be causing your low back pain

Exercise to keep you mind and body healthy

Just a month ago we would have never thought that we would have our restaurants, gyms, and places considered “Non-essential” closed.  We would have thought nothing about going to places with others, shaking hands, giving hugs, and touching our faces.  It’s a different world.

These changes create confusion, stress, and fear.  These are unhealthy emotions, that can put a toll on your body.  This can leave you susceptible to illness.  The confusion that we are faced with is, “What can we do about it?”

As a medical provider, it is our duty to try to help our community, even during a time of pandemic, through education and service.  This is the main reason we remain open and available to our community.  Our job is to help you keep your body healthy, which can in turn help keep a healthier mind.

One of the foundations of physical therapy is to optimize the body’s own ability to heal itself.  This is done through exercise and keeping the body moving.  Exercise keeps the body strong and has a benefit of releasing endorphins that can help reduce stress and improve mood.

While our office has all the tools and equipment to provide an excellent exercise program, there are many exercises that can easily be done at home with guidance.   If you are dealing with pain or discomfort and can’t exercise at home, we have created a sanitized environment in our office for you to safely exercise under guidance.

Do you have questions about what you can do at home to exercise?  Fill out this form and one of our staff will contact you to go over different options and programs to keep you healthy.
